Tenure Track in Culture and Design Management

The Underwood International College (UIC) of Yonsei University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position beginning in Fall 2017 at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor of Culture & Design Management (CDM) to teach at the International Campus in Songdo, Incheon, located within the greater Seoul metropolitan region in South Korea.

The successful candidate should have a Ph.D. in Design/Culture/Management or related areas. The candidates should have strong research and/or professional credentials, and a firm commitment to undergraduate education. We welcome applications from non-Korean citizens, as well as from Korean citizens with native-level ability of English proficiency.

We are particularly interested in those with strong teaching, professional, and research experience in one or more of the following areas:

- Product/Service Design

- Design Management

- Culture and Art Management

- Luxury Brand and Fashion Marketing Management

※ Candidates with academic degrees or research interest across multiple disciplines are strongly encouraged to apply. 

The appointment will begin September, 2017. Teaching responsibilities are 6 credit-hours (2 classes) per semester and the successful candidate will be expected to teach fundamental and advanced courses at the undergraduate level in English. Compensation includes competitive salary, health insurance and other benefits, and (for non-Korean citizens) fully-subsidized housing (for up to 6 years), and a generous relocation and start-up package.

Please indicate the specific position you are applying for in the subject line. Review process will start from February 16, 2017. Short-listed candidates will be asked to submit 3 letters of recommendation, sample syllabi, copies of all transcripts and diplomas, and their publication files. 

[Evaluation Process]

1.  Major suitability evaluation (1st round) – Candidates will be evaluated for the suitability of their field of specialization/major field of research to the field of recruitment.

2. Academic excellence evaluation (2nd round) - Candidates will be evaluated for their overall academic excellence, competence in education and research, and research achievements according to the affiliated college’s faculty achievement evaluation criteria.

3. Teaching demo and interview (3rd round) - Separate notifications will be sent to candidates who have passed the document examination. Candidates will be evaluated for their presentation contents and skills, academic development potential, contribution to the university as well as proper qualifications as a faculty member.

Separate notifications will be sent within March 2017 only to the candidates who participated in a teaching demo and interview. Within May 2017, final selections will be separately notified via e-mail only to the appointees.

Please note submissions will not be accepted if any of the required documents have not been prepared at the time of submission. Also, papers that have been submitted will not be returned. Applicants are responsible for any disadvantages caused by false entries and errors on submitted papers, or unprepared papers and records. Submitted papers and records are also used as personnel information in case of appointment, and hence must be accurate. Should there be false entries; unfavorable measures can be taken even after appointment. If an applicant submitted the copies of their diploma and academic transcript during the document submission period, said applicant must submit the original documents to the respective departments should he/she be selected for the teaching demo and interview. 

About the Culture and Design Management (CDM) Major at Techno-Art Division

The Culture & Design Management (CDM) major aims to nurture global experts and entrepreneurs who can plan, produce, and distribute cultural contents through a convergence among culture, design, technology, and management. The interdisciplinary curriculum of CDM prepares students with competitive knowledge and skills required to excel in cultural industry. The graduates of CDM may pursue their careers in primarily three fields: 1) product planner, design consultant, or event manager in major culture-based companies, 2) creative director, game producer, or 3D artist in IT firms, and 3) brand marketer, fashion merchandiser, or art curator in fashion or art industry. The flexible and integrated nature of CDM curriculum allows students to choose their long-term goals as managers, designers, or entrepreneurs.

About Techno-Art Division (TAD)

 Techno-Art Division (TAD) is a pioneering interdisciplinary undergraduate program that brings together instruction in Design, Culture, Technology and Management. The division's goal is to educate global leaders who will translate creativity into innovation by conceptualizing, designing and managing new products and services for innovative user experience and value creation based on Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The TAD also aims to educate students in creative leadership and entrepreneurship to become experts in convergence and integration. TAD students will acquire the managerial skills that can allow them to become creative innovators in design, culture and technology. The TAD currently offers three different majors: Information and Interaction Design (IID), Culture Design and Management (CDM), and Creative Technology Management (CTM).
