2017 Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Information and Interaction Design, Yonsei University

 

The Underwood International College (UIC) of Yonsei University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position beginning in Spring 2017 at the level of Assistant Professor of Information and Interaction Design to teach at the International Campus in Songdo, Incheon, located within the greater Seoul metropolitan region in South Korea.

i.        Experienced design practitioners should submit samples of their professional work as design portfolio, and those with prior teaching experience, examples of students' works. (Both online or email(uic_faculty@yonsei.ac.kr) submission are acceptable)

Short-listed candidates will be asked to submit 3 letters of recommendation, sample syllabi, copies of all transcripts, and publication file by email to uic_faculty@yonsei.ac.kr. The on-site interviews will be held during the third or the fourth week of October.

5.       Evaluation Process

a.       Major suitability evaluation (1st round) – Candidates will be evaluated for the suitability of their field of specialization/major field of research to the field of recruitment.

b.      Academic excellence evaluation (2nd round) - Candidates will be evaluated for their overall academic excellence, competence in education and research, and research achievements according to the affiliated college’s faculty achievement evaluation criteria.

c.       Teaching demo and interview (3rd round) - Separate notifications will be sent to candidates who have passed the document examination. Candidates will be evaluated for their presentation contents and skills, academic development potential, contribution to the university as well as proper qualifications as a faculty member.

6.       Final Decision

a.       Separate notifications will be sent within October 2016 only to the candidates who participated in a teaching demo and interview.

b.      Within December of 2016, final selections will be separately notified via e-mail only to the appointees.

7.       Note

a.       Submissions will not be accepted if any of the required documents have not been prepared at the time of submission. Also, papers that have been submitted will not be returned.

b.      Applicants are responsible for any disadvantages caused by false entries and errors on submitted papers, or unprepared papers and records.

c.       Submitted papers and records are also used as personnel information in case of appointment, and hence must be accurate. Should there be false entries; unfavorable measures can be taken even after appointment.

d.      If an applicant submitted the copies of their diploma and academic transcript during the document submission period, said applicant must submit the original documents to the respective departments should he/she be selected for the teaching demo and interview.

e.       Teaching responsibilities are 6 credit-hours (2 classes) per semester and the successful candidate will be expected to teach fundamental and advanced courses at the undergraduate level in English. Compensation includes competitive salary, health insurance and other benefits, and (for non-Korean citizens) fully-subsidized housing (for up to 6 years), and a generous relocation and start-up package.

About the Information and Interaction Design (IID) Major at Techno-Art Division

 The Information and Interaction Design (IID) Major aims to prepare our students to realize their potential as designers and agents of social change who can respond to the problems and challenges that are constantly emerging in our daily lives. As the new technologies are revolutionizing our communication process and information landscape, designers of today are expected to tackle the more complex problems in the conception, planning, and production of effective information systems and the exploration of new forms of interaction. We believe that designers of the future are not mere form-givers to 2D screen or 3D objects; they are creative thinkers who are able to discover new possibilities and meticulously shape form of the behavior of products, services, environments, and systems that embrace real-world challenges. Based on the principle of human-centered design, the Information and Interaction Design Major enables our students to become mediators in diverse contexts, leveraging their roles through the synthesis of creative design approaches, relevant technology, and a rigorous and systematic thinking through research. About Techno-Art Division (TAD)

 Techno-Art Division (TAD) is a pioneering interdisciplinary undergraduate program that brings together instruction in Design, Culture, Technology and Management. The division's goal is to educate global leaders who will translate creativity into innovation by conceptualizing, designing and managing new products and services for innovative user experience and value creation based on Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The TAD also aims to educate students in creative leadership and entrepreneurship to become experts in convergence and integration. TAD students will acquire the managerial skills that can allow them to become creative innovators in design, culture and technology. The TAD currently offers three different majors: Information and Interaction Design (IID), Culture Design and Management (CDM), and Creative Technology Management (CTM).
