COVID-19: University Measures In Response to

Korea’s Elevated Public Health Alert Level

On February 23, 2020, the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) raised the county’s public health alert level for COVID-19 to its highest ‘serious’ level due to the rapidly increasing number of infections transmitted within the community. In response, Yonsei University has strengthened precautionary measures as follows to ensure the safety and well-being of all members of the Yonsei community. We sincerely request your support and cooperation. 

1. Dormitory Check-in

- Students arriving from countries with confirmed COVID-19 cases, such as China (including Hong Kong and Macau), Japan, Singapore, Thailand, and Taiwan, etc. must check-in the dormitories according to the specific move-in dates.

- International students from China (including Hong Kong and Macau) living off-campus must strictly follow the 14-day self-quarantine requirement upon arrival in Korea. Self-quarantined students are restricted from campus facilities (such as the library) for 14 days since their date of arrival in Korea.

- Students arriving from China (including Hong Kong and Macao) are required to contact the Yonsei COVID-19 Call Center (02-2123-6000/3346) twice daily to report their current health condition.

- Students arriving from countries with no confirmed COVID-19 cases and students with no recent overseas travel history can only check-in from two days before the beginning of the semester.

- All first-year undergraduate and graduate students can only check-in from two days before the beginning of the semester. They are not eligible for early check-in.

 2. Building Entry Restriction

- All campus buildings with multiple entrances will be restricted to one designated entrance.

- Thermal imaging cameras or thermometer guns, and hand sanitizers will be installed at the designated entrances. All entrants must follow screening instructions and observe precautionary measures such as washing their hands.

- Opening hours for all buildings will be 9 am-6 pm. Only entrants with authorized access cards may enter the building after hours.  

 3. [Library] Limited Services and Change in Opening Hours 

- Library hours will be shortened to 9 am-9 pm, even including 24-hour Study Rooms. Library rooms or facilities with shorter opening hours will operate as usual.

- Only entrants with authorized access cards may enter the library. Entrants without cards will be restricted.

- The library will minimize seating density by 50 percent to reduce crowded seating. 

4. [Student Dining Halls/Baekyangro Underground] Change in Opening Hours

- All dining halls and convenience stores on campus will operate from 9 am-6 pm.

- Please avoid crowded seating when dining on campus.

- All Baekyangro Underground (The Commons) facilities will operate from 9 am-6 pm. External visitors are advised to refrain from using the facilities.

 5. Renting and Returning Graduation Gowns

- The rental service for graduation gowns has been suspended as of February 24, 2020. To ensure the safety of our campus, all February graduates are advised to attend the August Commencement Ceremony.

- The return date for graduate gowns has been extended to Tuesday, March 10, 2020. If possible, please visit your department to return your gown and receive your diploma after the COVID-19 situation in Korea has subsided.
