[Underwood Division Humanities & Social Sciences Students Only] Declaring / Changing Major, Double Major

UIC Underwood Division Humanities and Social Sciences students in their 2nd semester are required to declare a major according to the following guidelines. Underwood Division Humanities and Social Sciences Students who have declared their first major may change it within Underwood Division Humanities and Social Sciences majors by the end of their 5th semester, but may only do this once.

■ Application Period: July 9(Thurs), 9:00 - July 17(Fri), 17:20, 2020

 Major Declaration will be reflected on Yonsei Portal as of September 1, 2020.

 

■ UIC Underwood Division Humanities and Social Sciences Major Declaration

1. First Major

UIC UD Humanities and Social Sciences students must choose their 1st major among the following 4 majors:

① Comparative Literature and Culture (CLC)

② Economics (ECON)

③ International Studies (IS)

④ Political Science and International Relations (PSIR)

*Students will be accepted to the major of their choice without any selection process.

 

2. Second Major (Optional)

UIC UD Humanities and Social Sciences students may apply for a 2nd major within Underwood Division, as well as among any majors offered at Yonsei which have announced open spots on the Portal. UD students admitted in 2012 and 2013 may also apply for a 2nd major among UIC Asian Studies Division (ASD), Techno-Art Division (TAD) and UD students admitted in 2014 and thereafter may apply for a 2nd major among UIC Asian Studies Division (ASD), Techno-Art Division (TAD), Integrated Social Sciences Division (ISSD) and Integrated Science and Engineering Division (ISED) majors.

If they apply for a 2nd major within UIC UD, they will be accepted to the 2nd major of their choice without any selection process.

However, there is a selection process for ASD, TAD, ISSD, ISED majors, as well as majors offered outside of UIC. Students must submit a "Reason for Application & Desired Career" and a "Study Plan" through the Portal.

 

■ Applicable Students

1. First Major

• Declaring 1st Major: Students in their 2nd semester

• Changing 1st Major within UD Humanities and Social Sciences: Students in their 3rd, 4th or 5th semester

* UD Humanities and Social Sciences students cannot change their first major to LSBT, ASD, TAD, ISSD, ISED.

 

2. Second Major (Optional)

• Within UIC UD Majors (CLC, ECON, IS, PSIR, LSBT),

Declaring 2nd Major: Students in their 4th semester to 7th semester

Changing 2nd Major: Students in their 5th semester to 7th semester (the semester before the graduating semester) who have already declared their 2nd major.

 

• To select ASD, TAD, ISSD, ISED Majors as a 2nd Major (applicable to students admitted in 2012 and after)

Declaring 2nd Major: Students in their 4th semester to 7th semester 

Changing 2nd Major: Students in their 4th semester to 7th semester (the semester before the graduating semester) who have already declared their 2nd major. In order to change a 2nd major within ASD, TAD, ISSD, ISED, you need to submit a form to revoke the 2nd major to the UIC Office before the application period.

 

■ How to Declare a Major

1. Go to the online Yonsei Portal Services at http://portal.yonsei.ac.kr/main/indexe.jsp

 2. Click on "Academic Management System (Degree Programs)” and log in.

  3. Choose the “Majors” menu from the left menu.

    Click on the "Survey" tab and complete the survey.  Then, in order to declare your 1st major, click on “First Major (UIC)”

 4. Select your desired major and click the “Save” button.

 

■ How to Apply for a 2nd Major within UIC (Optional)

1. Go to the online Yonsei Portal Services at http://portal.yonsei.ac.kr/main/indexe.jsp

 2. Click on "Academic Management System (Degree Programs)” and log in.

3. Choose the “Majors” menu from the left menu. In order to declare / apply for a 2nd major within UIC, click on “Second Major (UIC)".

     A. To declare a 2nd major within UD: 1) Select your desided major and click the "Save" button. 2) You will be accepted to the applied 2nd major within UD and you can confirm by clicking on the "Result" tab. 

    B. To apply for a 2nd major from ASD, TAD, ISSD, ISED (applicable to students admitted in 2012 and after):

    1) Select your desired major.

    2) Fill out and save the "Reason for Application & Desired Career" and "Study Plan."

    3) You can check your application status by clicking on the "Result" tab. Results will be announced in early September.

 

■ Guidelines

1. UIC students must declare their 1st major at the end of their 2nd semester and may change it within their admissions track by the end of their 5th semester. Changing a major is allowed only once.

 2. To declare a 2nd major within UIC UD, UD students can do so from the end of their 4th semester and may change it by the end of their 7th semester.

 3. To declare a 2nd major from UIC ASD, TAD, ISSD, ISED, students admitted in 2012 and thereafter are allowed to apply from their 4th semester and may change it by the end of their 7th semester. Students have to undergo a selection process to choose ASD, TAD, ISSD, ISED majors as a second major and each major department will select successful candidates among applicants.

4. Declaring majors / changing applications after the designated period is not permitted.

5. Students cannot declare or change his/her major during leave of absence.

 

* If you want to re-apply after cancelling the approved double major, you must submit double major withdrawal form before double major application period begins. (Double majors can be cancelled until the semester before graduation). You cannot apply again for a cancelled major.

* If you have been approved for a double major (second major), you can apply for a third major during the application period for graduation (or completion) without prior approval. However, if the student fails to fulfill the graduation requirement for a double major (second major), the third major is automatically cancelled and graduation (or completion) is not possible.

 

* Students who have not completed major declaration are unable to apply for graduation so please make sure to declair your major by the 5th semester.
