About Social Innovation Creators’ Academia (SICA)

Social Innovation Creators’ Academia (SICA) is an innovative student platform established in 2017 within Underwood International College, Yonsei University. SICA focuses on three aspects of social innovation: technological innovation, economic values, and social impact. Intersectoral collaboration is very important at SICA. The majors within (ISSD) and (TAD) all bring their own unique expertise and work together to create a pool of innovative concepts and ideas.

[Vision]
Bring positive and sustainable changes to the world through social innovation.
[Mission Statement]
Foster future social innovators by providing the appropriate resources through an innovative platform
[Program]
SICA holds General Sessions once a week every Wednesday where students gather to learn and discuss issues that can only be solved through social innovation. The general sessions consist of a guest speaker lecture, discussions, team presentation, and feedback. Students get the chance to interact with experts in the field, who are invited as guest speakers. This allows them to develop a more dynamic, complete picture of what is required to carry out social innovation.

In addition to this, members of SICA are divided into teams and each team provides solutions to tackle a particular social problem by developing a business model, planning a campaign and through other solutions. The teams then present their proposals. These projects are streamlined through feedback from other SICA members as well as experts. At the end of each semester, the teams present their projects on social innovation and are examined by a panel of judges. Teams that have developed an outstanding idea receive the opportunity to carry out their projects on a larger scale by becoming part of the SICA umbrella group.
