2018 Summer Session Registration Guidelines - Course List Updated

2018 Seoul & International Campus - Summer Session Registration Guidelines 

 *Important Notice: UBC3005- PHYSIOLOGY will not be counted as BC Major course. BC Students are not allowed to take this course.

* Courses are subject to rescheduling. For the most updated course schedule and syllabi, please visit the website at http://portal.yonsei.ac.kr regarding Regular Yonsei Summer Session and http://summer.yonsei.ac.kr regarding YISS.

* Maximum course load: Totally 7 credits for Regular Yonsei Summer Session and YISS

* Course withdrawal is not allowed.

* The summer session credits will be added to the cumulative GPA and the degree requirement credits.

* Course repeat:

- The repetition of the courses taken in spring 2018 is not allowed.

- Students cannot repeat a regular semester course with a YISS course if the course code is different.

* Course enrollment:

- Students may enroll for both Regular Yonsei Summer and YISS session.

   But  only   7 credits can be obtained by both programs.  

- Expected graduates on Aug 2018 may not be enrolled for YISS. (Credits from YISS cannot be counted for graduation requirement.)

 It is the responsibility of each student to check the Yonsei University and YISS websites for further updates and details.

2. Eligibility

- Current Students and Students on leave (Including students on leave for military service) in Seoul & International and Wonju Campus

 

3. Application

(i)            Seoul & International Campus: Course Registration URL: http://portal.yonsei.ac.kr

(Go to Yonsei website à sign into Yonsei Portal System)

(ii)          Student capacity is limited

(iii)         Students can take Summer/ Winter Sessions in exchange universities (For more details, please see a separate announcement on the noticeboard)

4. Course Offerings

※ Course schedule and syllabi of available courses will be announced on the website near Friday, May 4, 2018. From Wednesday, May 9, 2018, it will be available on Yonsei Portal – “Course Catalogue and Syllabus: Undergraduate & Graduate.” (Note that courses are subject to rescheduling without notice. Students are responsible for checking most updated information until the commencement date.)

5. Tuition Fee: (Fees per Credit Point X No. of Credits) + Laboratory Fee

(i)     Fees per Credit Point: \110,000

(ii)   Laboratory Fee: Physics, Chemistry, Biology: \20,000, Mathematics, Statistics, IT \10,000

(iii)  Voluntary Service Course (UCI12001) : Tuition has to be paid initially (refund will be made to the student’s bank account later on)

6. Maximum Course Load and Credit Recognition

(i)            Maximum Course Load: 7 Credits (However, students who are willing to take two basic-major laboratory courses (4 credits each) are allowed to take maximum of 8 credit hours)

(ii)          Credit Recognition

-      Credits earned in the summer session will be counted towards the student’s graduation credit and GPA (However, students who were enrolled in 2003 or earlier can only earn the number of credits, but the grades will not count towards GPA)

-      If prospective graduates in 2018-1 semester takes summer session, credits completed will be reflected in their graduation requirement

-      Students on leave of absence cannot graduate after completing summer session (E.g. If a student is on leave for 2018-1 semester and has met the graduation requirement by completing courses in summer session, s/he cannot graduate in August 2018.) Students on leave must register for the next regular semester and complete at least 1 credit hour to graduate (i.e. students must be registered in the university at the point they are applying for graduation.)

7. Course Withdrawal

(i)            Once all the procedures of Summer Session Registration (i.e. course enrollment period, add & drop period etc.) are completed, course change, course withdrawal, or cancellation are not allowed.

(ii)          If there is an inevitable excuse for a withdrawal, students must send a petition form and other required documents to Academic Support Team of Office of Academic Affairs via e-mail (kysin@yonsei.ac.kr).

-      Employment at a firm: proof of employment (intern – proof of internship)

-      Students to serve military duty: draft notice (입영통지서)

-      Medical condition which needs absence of more than 5 days such as surgery, hospitalization or another equivalent: medical certificate or doctor’s note

(iii)         Tuition Refund

-      Withdrawal before the commencement date (Friday, June 22) : Full tuition

-      Withdrawal after commencement and before 1/3 of the session (Friday, June 29): 2/3 of the tuition

-      Withdrawal after commencement and before 2/3 of the session (Friday, July 6): 1/2 of the
tuition

-      Withdrawal after 2/3 of the session: Withdrawal prohibited

* Refund can only be made if the student’s bank account is registered on Yonsei Portal (Students must check and register their bank details are in the Yonsei Portal System in advance)

8. General Notes

(i)            For students in University-College, courses completed in the summer session will be recognized. The grades will also be added to cumulative GPA once it is approved as a major course. (However, if the student has taken the course before, it will be treated as a course repeat, and the grades from previous round will be counted towards GPA when it is approved as a major course)

(ii)          Students who wish to register for Internship Credit System Program (undergraduates, 1 credit) should contact Scholarship and Employment Team of Office of Student Affairs and Services (02-2123-6676)

(iii)         Summer session can only be taken on one campus among Seoul (International) Campus, Wonju Campus or Exchange University (If a student applies for multiple locations, all will be canceled)

(iv)         Course Repeat

-      Students cannot re-take courses taken in the previous semester in the summer session (E.g. a course taken in 2018-1 semester cannot be retaken in this summer session.)

-      The highest score for a repeated course is A0(4.0) i.e. F~A0

-      Students admitted in years 2005~2007 can repeat a course which scored C+ or below (Number of course repeat allowed – Students admitted in 2005: 4 times, Students admitted in 2006: 3 times, Students admitted in 2007: 2 times.)  Students can repeat a course regardless of their previous grades and may be awarded A+.

-      From 2012 semester 2, the default option in course enrollment is “not to use number of course repeat allowed.” Due to this reason, students can only be awarded grades up to A0. If students want to use their “number of course repeat allowed” to obtain A+, they can change the option in “Enrollment Status” section after completing the course enrollment; Yonsei Portal à Undergraduate Course Enrollment à sign-in à Enrolment Status à Course Repeat àselect to use “number of course repeat allowed”

(Students must check FAQ because the regulations for course repeat varies according to the year of admission)
