Call for Applications:
Two-Week Summer Program at Kyoto University, July 29-August 11, 2018

The call for applications is now open for the two-week “2018 Kyoto Summer Program for East Asia and Germany Students with KU Students” (Kyoto Summer Program) at Kyoto University, Japan, from July 29 to August 11, 2018. The maximum of three outstanding
UIC students will be selected to join the Kyoto Summer Program consisting of: five concentrated courses in English on a variety of topics in Japanese studies; Japanese language classes (Beginner; Intermediate I; Intermediate II; Advanced); field trip to nearby areas; and
student-planned activities with Kyoto University students. Participants will benefit from the scholarly excellence at Kyoto University as well as close interactions with a variety of students from top schools in East Asia and Germany.

The tuition and housing (hotel) fee will be covered by Kyoto University (please note that rooms will be shared with two to three other participants of same sex.) The participating students are responsible for airfare, mandatory travel insurance, field trip expense, and other personal expenses. Since the entire program is conducted in English, no Japanese proficiency is necessary. UIC students of any major in between their second and final semester as of Fall 2018 are eligible to apply, but the priority is given to students with Korean citizenship and no experience of living in Japan. Please note that participating students must comply with the laws and regulations of the Government of Japan and the rules and regulations of Kyoto University.

Students may earn 3 credits by participating in this program if they subsequently enroll in the “Senior Thesis: Independent Study” course in Fall 2018 and conduct related research supervised by a UIC professor in the relevant field.

To apply, please email the application materials below in PDF or Word files to Prof. Tomoko Seto, tseto@yonsei.ac.kr by June 1 (Fri), 4:00PM.
