 Design Factory Innovation Tour

Nexus Maximus V by Nexus Design Factory in Philadelphia, USA

Supported by Yonsei Center for Social Innovation

Challenge – Improving Lives through Healthy Communities

Here is an opportunity to work with and learn from colleagues – fellow faculty, students, and industry partners from across the Design Factory Global Network and beyond – to develop new innovations in community health.

About

Nexus Maximus is a parent project of Nexus Design Factory, Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, USA. This fast-paced “sprint” project (essentially a hackathon) is designed to provide students a unique learning opportunity while solving a challenging real-world problem, all while having fun. Nexus Maximus brings together students from across diverse programs, as well as students from other institutions such as Aalto University in Finland, KEA in Copenhagen, Pace University in New York, and the Paris-Est d. School in France.

This year’s theme is from Jefferson’s mission: “We Improve Lives,” and commitment to community. The challenge is “Improving Lives through Healthy Communities”, focused on Philadelphia communities’ local challenges. Participating students in Nexus Maximus will be assigned to teams comprised of 4-6 students from different disciplines. Each team will be assigned a community in Philadelphia in a specific zip code, and will be challenged with developing innovation to improve the health of that local community. Approaches may include:

  • Improving health care access
  • Healthy community design
  • New policies or business models to deliver sustainable value to the community.
  • Community diversity
  • The environment

Teams will evaluate and seek innovation that supports the health and well-being of specific local community populations. The team's project work will be supplemented with workshops on innovation, entrepreneurship, and content relevant to the theme, delivered by experts throughout the weekend.
