[UIC Writing Center Recruitment Announcement]

The UIC Writing Center is currently hiring tutors for the Fall 2019 semester.

We invite upper-classmen from all divisions and majors to apply!

Tutors are UIC upper-classmen who display exceptional writing skills and are passionate about helping other students with their writing. Students wishing to work as tutors at the Writing Center may apply to become a peer tutor or be nominated as a peer tutor by a UIC instructor. All candidates must submit an application (see below) and sit through an interview with Professor Seunghei Clara Hong, the Director of the Writing Center.

REQUIREMENTS

Tutors are required to: (a) work during the entire semester; (b) hold tutoring sessions for a given number of hours per week (usually 3-4 hours); (c) attend pre-semester training workshops; (d) attend meetings with the Director to report and address students’ progress and needs; and (e) manage resources. Tutors will be awarded a UIC scholarship for the semester.

APPLICATION

To apply, send (a) a letter of application (about your writing/peer-editing/tutoring experiences, approach to writing, and/or anything else you think relevant in 300 words); (b) a current CV; and (c) an academic writing sample (edited to no more than 1,300 words) from a UIC course (preferably a UIC Seminar) to uicwritingcenter@gmail.com. The application deadline is May 31, 2019. Students will be notified by June 7, 2019 and those accepted will be invited for an interview to be held on June 10, 2019 (in person or via Skype). Please note that the pre-semester writing workshop for Fall 2019 will be held during the last week of August (between August 28-30).
