2017 February UIC Commencement Ceremony
Proud UICians: Graduating Class of 2017
On February 27, the commencement ceremony of Underwood International College was held in Luce Chapel. More than 130 graduates celebrated the completion of their college careers. 90 graduates from Underwood Division of five majors including Comparative Literature and Culture (CLC), Economics (ECON), International Studies (IS), Political Science and International Relations (PSIR), and Life Science and Biotechnology (LSBT), 22 graduates from Asian Studies Division of Asian Studies major, and 19 graduates from Techno-Art Division of three majors, Culture and Technology Management (CTM), Culture and Design Management (CDM), Information and Interaction Design (IID) were invited to attend the ceremony. With a total of 131 graduates and their parents, Luce Chapel was crowded with people gathered to join the meaningful and honorable event.
The ceremony started with Professor Michael Michael’s honorary speech, and continued with the Invocation and Scripture Reading by Chaplain Professor Dae Sung Lee. The Dean of UIC, Professor Jin Bae Chung, delivered the Commencement Address and the Associate Dean, Professor Tae Yoon Sung, presented the academic report. Later, all graduates participated in the ceremony received their degrees from the Dean.
The valedictorian of this year was Byeong Il Ryoo (ECON 11) and Hee Yeon Kim (CLC 13), and the salutatorian was Jung Hyun Kim (IS 12) and Jewel Park (LSBT 11). Byeong Il Ryoo later delivered his valedictory address as the graduate representative. After the speech, Underwood Vision Ensemble, an Orchestra club of Underwood International College, played a special performance to celebrate the graduation.
The graduates of this year are planning to work in companies such as Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, Hyundai Motors, Korean Air, Uber Korea, Bank of China, Bank of America, Singapore Ministry of Defense, and Adecco Asia Pacific Headquarter, or to continue their study in graduate schools such as Seoul National University Graduate School, Korea University Medical School, and Yonsei Law School.
