Annual Showcase of Student Ambassadors’ Achievements

Introducing UIC to the World Through Student-Run Publicity Projects

Organized by UIC Student Ambassadors (SAM), Spotlight 2017 was held on May 17 as the fifth annual presentation by SAM to the faculty and staff of UIC. More than just a showcase of projects made over the past academic year, the event is a veritable display of the pivotal role that SAM plays in public relations at UIC.

Since its inception, SAM has been a pillar in UIC’s marketing strategies by helping UIC sustain an online presence. The seventeen members of this student body have also established relationships with target audiences abroad, as well as with high school academic advisors that drive the recruitment of talented foreign students.

As social media continually evolves, novel and effective approaches must be identified to attract and seek out students. Online platforms that SAM maintains and manages include the UIC Student Ambassadors’ website, Weibo, WeChat, Instagram, and the college’s official Facebook page. Content is also made to suit audiences’ usage patterns of each platform.

Dean Jin-bae Chung adds, “We are heartened to learn that UIC Student Ambassadors have restructured their internal working processes to enhance productivity standards, to ultimately develop more agile, dynamic, and responsive practices that are able to deliver better outcomes in our public relations activities. The hard work done by the UIC Student Ambassadors has significant material impact on the college’s recruitment efforts abroad, for they cultivate top-of-mind brand awareness in foreign high school students and drives the call-to-action that increases the number of our international applicants.”

UIC Student Ambassadors now comprises of three sub-groups that together supplement the college’s existing publicity and outreach efforts. As interested applicants abroad often want to find more information about UIC, SAM is in the position to effectively provide answers and guidance.
