Chicken Soup for the Zeller’s Soul
The usually quiet Career Development Center office, located at Veritas Hall B421, received several waves of excited visitors on Thursday evening, March 8. In ten separate teams, 103 students from Appenzeller International House crowded into the CDC to carry out a mission for their “Running Zeller” RC Program, based on the popular Korean show Running Man. As quickly as possible, each team had to flip through four books of advice for how to succeed in college, find the best piece of advice, and share it with the rest of their fellow “Zellers.” Images soon popped up on the Appenzeller chat room with useful advice, “Don’t hide your STDs,” “forget about your GPA,” “avoid bad courses at all cost,” “get back out there” after a break-up, “don’t be afraid to get to know professors,” “mistakes are the reason we grow to be better people,” “be yourself,” and “a successful student is always on the lookout for situations where they can really push a talent to its limits.” As the students searched for this advice, the Associate Director of the CDC, Professor Chad Denton, and the Global Career Society co-presidents Hyeyoon Seo and Anh Nguyen gave the Zellers a pitch about the CDC’s services, including 1:1 counselling about post-graduation career or internship opportunities, a library of books about preparing for your life during and after college, and videos of previous CDC workshops and alumni lectures. The CDC is an open space for students, there is no charge for using the services and facilities, and students are free to drop by the office during breaks between classes.
