About the Competition
The Yonsei Social Innovation Challenge is social impact competition that aims to equip students with the skills, tools, and the network to solve social challenges. Students will work on a social issue of their choice either by consulting an existing organization or creating a new product or service. Hosted by the Yonsei Center for Social Innovation and Underwood International College, the Challenge is consisted of a Bootcamp, a networking night, mentoring sessions and final pitch day. Social innovation, consulting professionals, and investors will mentor students on their project and career development.
Objective
This year, we are focusing on Sustainable Development Goal 5. Gender Equality
Equip students to solve social challenges by:
① Ensure universal access to sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights
② Enhance the use of enabling technology, in particular information and communications technology, to promote the empowerment of women
③ Eliminate all forms of violence against all women and girls in the public and private spheres, including trafficking and sexual and other types of exploitation
④ Ensure women’s full and effective participation and equal opportunities for leadership at all levels of decision-making in political, economic and public life
Optional topics are:
- Childcare
- Any topics regarding Gender Equality
What to expect
1. Learn how to solve a problem from management consultants and social changemakers
2. Learn about design thinking
3. Network with the key social innovators, consultants, and investors for career development
4. Have an opportunity to start something important
5. Create the impact!
Eligibility
The program is open to all students at Underwood International College, and diversity is highly encouraged. You can enter as a team of three. However, all teams should include at least one student from the Techno-Art Division and Integrated Social Sciences Division of Underwood International College.
* Students who are in their final semester are not eligible.
Application Details
Choose a social issue and submit the following:
① A video clip (max 7mins) answering three questions:
- What is the social problem you want to work on?
- Why is this issue important?
- What skills does each member bring to the team?
② One powerpoint page with a summary of your answers to the three questions above + optional backup pages (max 5 backup pages)
③ Upload your video to youtube (private mode) and send us the URL
*Submit all of the above via e-mail at ycsi_ck@yonsei.ac.kr by Dec 7th (Fri) 6:00 PM.
Selection Criteria
Each proposal will be carefully reviewed by the Social Impact Initiative for Global Creative Talent based on the criteria below:
① Significance of the social issue
② Level of passion and commitment
③ Willingness to learn
④ Presentation

Social Innovation Workshop - Boot-Camp consists of topics like "what is social innovation," "problem-solving," "design thinking," "how to start a social venture," "social impact investing" by consultants, entrepreneurs, and investors to help participants launch their project. |

Final Awards
Total three teams will be given a scholarship of following:
1st prize = 3,000,000 won, 2nd prize = 1,500,000 won
*All participants will be given a "Certificate of Social Innovation", and an internship opportunity with the mentor company.
