About the Workshop

The Yonsei Social Innovation Challenge Workshop is a 4-day intensive workshop that provides students with an opportunity to plan, design, and implement solutions to social challenges. Students will identify a social issue of their choice, brainstorm possible ideas, design and create a prototype of the proposed solution. Hosted by the Yonsei Center for Social Innovation and Underwood International College, the workshop is consisted of special lectures, working sessions and final pitch day. All participating students will earn 1 credit (when combined with an extra two-day conference) and each team (assigned during the workshop) can use up to 200,000KRW for purchasing materials and conducting field research. Top-performing teams will also receive up to 2,000,000 KRW as scholarship.

*This workshop will be a gateway to our “Social Innovator Certificate Curriculum.”

Objective

Provide students with the following opportunities:

 (1) Deep understanding and critical thinking of social issues

(2) Planning and creating a new product/service to solve social challenges through design thinking  

What to expect

1.  Learn how to solve a problem using a design thinking approach from faculty

2.  Learn about social innovation cases and principles from experts

3.  Have hands-on experiences on user research and prototyping

4.  Have an opportunity to conduct field research, generate ideas, design, prototype and present the solution as a interdisciplinary team

5.  Create the impact!

When: 2017. 1. 16 (Mon) ~ 19 (Thu)  10:00-17:00

Where: Yonsei International Campus DFK Ideashop & Protoshop

*Complimentary accommodation will be available at Yonsei International Campus Dormitory.

Eligibility

The program is open to all major-declared students of the Techno-Art Division or Integrated Social Sciences Division of Underwood International College.

* Students can either apply as a team of three or individually. Those without a team will be assigned their team during the orientation.

* Students who are in their final semester are not eligible.

* Students who are currently receiving the full scholarship are eligible for participation, but not eligible for an extra scholarship.

Please fill out this google form by Dec 14 (Wed) 5:00PM. Results will be announced on Dec 23 (Fri).

Final Awards

Teams will be assigned for the workshop. After a week-long workshop, total three teams will be given scholarship of following:

  1st prize = 2,000,000 won (1 team)

  2nd prize = 1,000,000 won (2 teams)

*When participants join Korea Scholar’s Conference for Youth (KSCY) as a mentor, 1 Holistic Education (HE) credit will be additionally given. KSCY provides conferences and scholarly events for youths to express their academic interests and passion. For more information, visit http://kscy2014.weebly.com/.
