Social Innovation Internship with Peachmarket (Winter 2018)

About Social Innovation Internship

Yonsei Center for Social Innovation provides diverse programs including social innovation related career opportunities. Students interested in social innovation and career development are strongly encouraged to apply.

About Peachmarket

Peachmarket is a Non Profit Organization based in Seoul that “translates” Korean texts to simpler Korean to make it understandable to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities(IDD).

With a slower learning curve than most people, people with IDD struggle in a society where the most critical rights such as voting require them to understand complex texts.

Peachmarket vows to fight the virtual illiteracy of people with IDD in the name of equality of all before information by translating existing critical textual materials into simple Korean.

It was in that spirit that during the 2017 Korean Presidential Elections, Peachmarket translated the pledge of each candidate to enable People with IDD to vote responsibly.  Currently,  Peachmarket continues translating and creating new literary contents in simple Korean, such as short stories, novels, and motivational books. November 2017, Peachmarket launched a simple Korean news website, NEWSCONTAC. NEWSCONTAC retranscribes complex news into simple Korean, and help people with IDD to understand what is happening in the world around them.

Simple Korean material has the potential of appealing to beginner level Korean-learners, and Peachmarket aims to create simple Korean contents for those people as well.
