UIC Dean, Professor Taeyoon Sung, with Mr. Dae-Hyun Cho, director of CJ ENM’s Content Business Division after signing the MOU at Yonsei International Campus in Songdo.
On July 13, 2020, Underwood International College signed an industry-academia collaboration agreement with CJ ENM’s OTT (online streaming service) platform “TVING.” The partnership is a joint venture in digital convergence technologies, in response to the digital media needs of a post-corona world.
The overall purpose of this long-term R&D alliance is to contribute sustainable research findings and to cultivate “digital convergent talent.” There are hopes to launch commercial services as well.
In order to accomplish this goal, Underwood and CJ ENM will utilize their research funds and growth-oriented core business model, respectively. At the center of the collaboration will be CJ ENM’s OTT platform “TVING,” which is quickly becoming a formidable digital media platform, and Underwood International’s HASS Division, which emphasizes an interdisciplinary approach to arts, business, engineering, social sciences, and humanities education.
Current plans on how to use the OTT platform include the following:
Create big data based on video services and machine learning solutions simultaneously
Develop service-oriented UI/UX for the next generation of media users
Foster “convergent talent” suitable for the IT-sphere
This industry-academia collaboration will take place between September 2020 to June 2021, but additional programs may be added through negotiation. Also, selected students from the pool of participants will receive scholarships as well as small benefits if applying to CJ ENM in the future.
