UIC Student Care in the Times of COVID-19
Dean sends his wishes to all incoming UICians
During the first major outbreak of COVID-19 in March, schools all around the country were mandated to delay the beginning of their spring semesters. UIC was no exception, which undoubtedly came as a big disappointment to our new students, many of whom had been awaiting the beginning of their college careers amid the beautiful cherry blossoms on campus.
Nonetheless, UIC Dean Taeyoon Sung made it his mission to make sure our new UICians knew they mattered. Over the course of several days, Dean Sung called each and every incoming UIC student — a number close to 500 — to deliver a personal message of his shared disappointment regarding these unforeseen changes, but more importantly, his gratitude for their patience and flexibility.
An extra gesture of support for our international students
Our student employees help to pass out the snack packs in Songdo.
The COVID-19 crisis has been tough for many of us, but it has been especially challenging for our international students who have moved far away from home in pursuit of their education.
Back in June, in order to give them an extra boost of energy, the UIC Administration Team arranged “finals week snack packs” for our international students living on the Yonsei International Campus in Songdo. Inside each pack was a gluten-free mini chiffon cake, blueberry bread, cookies, and juice. While snacks cannot eradicate the pandemic, we sincerely hope that our international students were able to feel our appreciation for all that they bring to our community!
