Baisalova Ayazhan

Hello everyone! My name is Ayazhan, a Class of 22.5 student majoring in PSIR and QRM. Throughout my academic career, I have come to realize that, to me, writing is ultimately a set of tools and skills that allows one to synthesize their subjective experiences and ideas with forms and structures, which enables a deeper form of communication and transmission. This process can come of as daunting, however, good writing is an ability that can only be honed through active effort and practice, which is exactly what the Writing Center aims to encourage in students. Thus, if you ever find yourself in the midst of a struggle with a paper – be it in terms of form, style, or content – you can turn towards us for help. Having a pair of a fresh eyes or a third-party opinion can help you work out the kinks in your guiding questions, thesis, and arguments, which will allow you to properly transmit your valuable opinions and achieve the results you desire in your studies. Therefore, do not hesitate to ask for guidance in answering the difficult questions that writing can sometimes pose, and come see us at the Writing Center. I hope to assist you to the best of my abilities!

Fairuza Jagafarova

Hi everyone! My name is Fairuza, and I am currently pursuing an Economics degree at Yonsei University class of 2023.5. I come from Kazakhstan, a country known for its stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage. Growing up, I was inspired by the works of Kazakh poets who poured their love for our country into beautifully crafted verses. Their words sparked my own passion for writing, and for a long time, I dreamed of becoming a poet myself. Although I chose a different career path, writing has remained a significant part of my life. I often find myself putting feelings into words, reflecting on my experiences, and drawing comfort from the writings of others. This love for exploring human emotions and perspectives naturally led me to the study of social sciences. Here, I can delve into research that seeks to understand how people think, feel, and interpret the world around them. I hope to help you to find your style and make writing your new passion!

Audrey C. Scott

Hello! My name is Audrey, a Class of 2022 student majoring in International Studies and Comparative Literature and Culture at UIC. Growing up Korean-American in the heart of the American South, I have always found myself navigating between diverse cultures, languages, and identities. Writing, for me, became an essential bridge that has allowed me to connect, express, and explore the nuances of my life and culture. I believe writing is more than just a skill; it is a powerful tool that helps us understand ourselves and the world around us. It allows us to communicate our most intricate thoughts and emotions, transforming abstract ideas into tangible expressions. Yet, mastering writing can be challenging and often overwhelming. This is exactly why the Writing Center exists—to support you in honing your writing abilities through consistent practice and personalized guidance. If you ever feel stuck with your essays, whether in developing arguments, refining your style, or clarifying your thesis, I am here to provide the support and insights you need to move forward confidently.

Yewon Hong

Hello! I’m Yewon, a Class of 2023 junior majoring in International Studies here at UIC. I’m a firm believer that good writing doesn’t come from natural talent with words alone, but from a combination of solid initial planning, consistent revision, and intentional structure. By sharing my writing process, I hope others can discover their own strategies and know-hows to develop a personalized writing rhythm that works best for them. I understand that the early stages of university-level writing can feel intimidation, especially when academic expectations are high and initial confidence in your work may be low. Stop by the Writing Center if this sounds like you – it’s a space where anyone can comfortably explore their ideas, ask questions, and openly discuss mistakes without fear. Whether you’re stuck on how to start, need help organizing your thoughts, or simply want feedback, I’m here to help you put pen to paper and keep your writing moving! I look forward to working with you and helping you grow as a writer, one draft at a
time.

Anna Bordyugova

Hi everyone! My name is Anya and I’m a senior majoring in International Studies. To me, writing is about clarity — it gives shape to abstract ideas and transforms fleeting inspiration into something tangible. The act of writing is a journey of self-discovery; words serve as a mirror to our thoughts, revealing not just to others but often to ourselves what we want to say. I am certain that you, as a Yonsei student, have a million ideas, so the real challenge now will be organizing and articulating them effectively. Having struggled with essays and having come to the Writing Center my first semester here, I firmly believe that good writing is built through time and practice, not innate talent. I hope to help you along this journey and witness you transform your unique perspectives into compelling narratives. I cannot overstate how powerful you will feel once you’ve mastered the skill of expressing yourself through writing. I am excited to get to know you and work together this semester!
