Integrated Science and Engineering Division (ISED)
The Integrated Science and Engineering (ISE) Division is designed for students who seek to pursue careers in the natural sciences and engineering, and for those who also wish to gain an interdisciplinary perspective on their chosen specialization that is not available in a typical natural science program. ISED students gain a thorough understanding of subjects including biotechnology, nanoscience, energy and environmental engineering by rigorously studying theory and application in both the classroom and through hands-on experience in the laboratory.
Majors
The Nano Science and Engineering (NSE) major is based on an interdisciplinary curriculum that spans basic science, applied principles, and nano-applications. Experiment-oriented courses held in cutting-edge facilities to promote fundamental research ability and problem-solving skills. This major meets the educational needs for various nano-related fields such as, semiconductors, displays, nanomaterials, photonics, nano-bio, and nano-electronics. Students interested in innovative solutions to the tech world’s major challenges are best suited for this demanding program. Education in the NSE major will lead students to the forefront of the global nanotechnology industry.
The goal of the Energy and Environmental Science and Engineering (EESE) major is to bring to light global issues surrounding energy, global warming, and water to meet the needs of the future and to build a bridge to that future through today’s energy and environmental technologies. The EESE major seeks to cultivate the next generation of researchers and policymakers, to promote leadership in a comprehensive interdisciplinary energy and environmental program, and to foster links and partnership between the EESE major and the outside world to build an Asian hub in the field of energy and environment.
The Bio-Convergence (BC) major is ideal for open-minded students who wish to become global leaders in the pharmaceutical, biotech, cosmetics, and healthcare industries. The BC major offers students the opportunity to study and contribute to the scientific and technological breakthroughs that revolutionize and transform the world. The program is conducted in an interdisciplinary environment that centers upon coursework in fields such as biochemistry, systems biology, biotechnology, chemistry, earth system sciences and pharmaceuticals. The program provides students with many opportunities to conduct laboratory work and independent research, while also featuring courses that deal with the interaction between society and science (science policy, regulatory affairs, etc.).
