UIC Research Projects
The UIC Research Project (URP) is a signature academic program at Yonsei University’s Underwood International College (UIC) designed to provide undergraduate students with hands-on, research-oriented learning opportunities. The program encourages students to engage in interdisciplinary research, develop critical thinking skills, and cultivate professional competencies necessary for both academic and real-world applications.
The program is divided into two distinct tracks based on the focus of the research. During the summer semester, students can participate in URP-Global, which is designed for projects with a global or international focus. These projects often involve comparative studies between countries, analyses of transnational issues, or research that addresses worldwide trends and challenges.
In contrast, the winter semester offers URP-Korea, which is intended for research centered on Korea itself. Students exploring topics related to Korean society, culture, politics, economy, or local policies are encouraged to join this track.
Applicants are advised to carefully consider the nature of their research topic before applying. If the study is global in scope, students should apply to URP-Global during the summer semester.
If the topic is focused on Korea, URP-Korea in the winter semester is the appropriate choice. By aligning the research focus with the corresponding program, students are able to receive targeted mentorship, gain valuable research experience, and contribute meaningfully to their field of study while benefiting from the interdisciplinary and internationally minded environment of UIC.
