Announcement for 2023 GKS Korean Government Support Program for Self-Financed Foreign Students
1. Qualification
- Applicants must satisfy all of the following requirements.
- However, you can not apply if you have received the self-sufficient scholarship twice.
- Self-sufficient foreign students who are enrolled in an undergraduate program at a domestic university (including junior college) as of March 2023 and who have completed at least 2 semesters.
- Excluding those who are on leave of absence or are planning to take a leave of absence, those who have completed 2 semesters including the excess semester, exchange students or those who are expected to be dispatched abroad.
- Those who have more than 2 semesters left in the course, excluding those expected to graduate early.
- Holders of foreign nationality managed by the university as a foreign student
- Average score of 80 or higher out of 100 during the entire period of attending a domestic university.
- For transfer students, calculate the arithmetic average of the 100-point scaled score for the entire period of enrollment at the former university (domestic university) and the 100-point scaled score for the entire period of enrollment at the current university.
- Average score of 80 or higher out of 100 for the previous semester
- Grades must be written as a scaled score of 100 (if there are only GPA on the transcript, the university staff must record the scaled score and affix a confirmation seal or signature on it). Applicants with a rounded score of 80 cannot apply.
- Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) level 4 or higher
- Limited to transcripts within the standard validity period of March 1st, 2023
2. Scholarship
- Amont: 5,000,000 KRW (500,000 KRW per month)
- Benefit period: March 2023 ~ December 2023 (10 months)
3. Application and Document Submission
- How to apply: Online Application
- Application system: Study in Korea System (www.studyinkorea.go.kr)
- Online Application Period: February 6th, 2023 (Mon) 9AM ~ February 24th, 2023 (Fri) 6PM
- How to apply: Sign up → Apply online → Print out the application form → Submit it to the OIA office along with required documents
- List of Documents to be submitted by applicants
- One copy of the application form(printed from the system after applying online)/The name on the application form must be the same as on the passport.
- One copy of passport
- Certificate of enrollment and transcript (grades for the entire semester studied), one copy each
- In the case of transfer, the entire semester transcript issued by the previous university (domestic university) must also be submitted.
- In principle, transcripts are issued with a ‘100-point conversion score’ written on them. If you need to add the grades of the previous semester to a ‘100-point conversion score’, be sure to sign or seal the confirmation of the person in charge of the previous university.
- Original copy of Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) (limited to transcripts within the standard validity period as of March 1st, 2023)
- Printed copies from the TOPIK homepage are accepted as originals.
- One copy of self-introduction and study plan (handwriting/in Korean, no more than 2 pages) (Attachment)
- One copy of proof of overseas Koreans (submit only if relevant)
- Overseas Korean certificate issued by the diplomatic mission (preference given in selection)
- Original copy of the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) speaking evaluation score (submit only if relevant)
- Only general performance scores are recognized (no demonstration or mock evaluation)
4. Application method and procedure
- Applications must be made through the university you are currently enrolled in.
- The final selection is made by the National Institute for International Education.
