Call for Applications: UIC-ICU LearnUs Global Semester Program
Underwood International College will be hosting the inaugural LearnUs Global Semester Program in conjunction with International Christian University (ICU) in Tokyo, Japan for the fall 2022 semester. In this program, students from UIC and ICU will participate in an innovative “hybrid” exchange program that combines online and in-person instruction from both UIC and ICU professors. In addition, students will enjoy a variety of rich learning experiences through on-site field trips in Korea and Japan as part of their global semester. The LearnUs Global Semester seeks to create a new paradigm for higher education by fostering international cooperation and understanding through innovative teaching and learning practices.
In the first 11 weeks, UIC and ICU students will take LearnUs courses as a single cohort. Starting from week 6, ICU students will travel to Korea and the UIC-ICU cohort will continue with the LearnUs curriculum while taking college-sponsored weekly field trips. Finally, UIC students will participate in a college-sponsored 10-day field trip to Japan during winter 2022 (specific dates to be determined). UIC students will earn 15 credits that will count towards their Common Curriculum (CC) requirements (LHP and UIC seminars).
The inaugural Global Semester Program for Fall 2022 is limited to 10 students from each institution, who will be selected through a competitive application process. All UIC students may apply, but preference may be given to students from the classes of 2021.5 and 2022. Interested UIC students should submit the following application materials to firstname.lastname@example.org by Tues, May 31, 2022, 5pm:
